Life insurance · how it works
How to buy life insurance in NJ: our 5-step process
Every life insurance case follows the same five steps: Life Planning Review, coverage design, application & underwriting, offer review, and policy delivery. You always know what we need from you and what happens next, and there are no health questions on the website.
- 1
Step 1
Life Planning Review
You tell us what the coverage needs to accomplish (income for a family, a mortgage, a partner buyout, a loan requirement, an estate) and what life insurance you already own. There are no health questions on the website; anything medical is discussed privately later.
What you do
Answer a few questions about your goal and upload any current policy statements you have.
Step complete when
Your goal, the people involved and your existing coverage are on file.
- 2
Step 2
Coverage design
Kevin reviews your goal and existing coverage and recommends an amount, a policy type (term, permanent or a mix) and a structure: who should own the policy, who pays and who the beneficiary is. Ownership and tax questions are organized for your CPA or attorney. A private conversation about health and history helps point the application to carriers that fit.
What you do
Have a short private call if needed, and loop in your CPA or attorney on ownership questions.
Step complete when
The amount, policy type and ownership structure are agreed, and the carriers to apply with are chosen.
- 3
Step 3
Application & underwriting
You complete the application with the selected carrier. Depending on the amount, your age and the product, underwriting may use data checks only, or add a paramedical exam, lab work, records from your doctors and, for larger amounts, financial documentation. Every requirement is tracked so nothing stalls.
What you do
Complete the application and any exam, and sign authorizations for records.
Step complete when
The carrier makes an offer, or we have a clear answer and next option.
- 4
Step 4
Offer review
You get the carrier’s offer: the approved rating class, the premium, any riders and, for permanent policies, an illustration. Kevin compares the offer with what was applied for, explains anything that changed and what it means, and helps you decide whether to accept, adjust the amount or pursue another carrier.
What you do
Review the offer, ask questions, and choose.
Step complete when
You’ve accepted final terms, or decided on a different path.
- 5
Step 5
Policy delivery & setup
You sign the delivery requirements, set up premium payment, and confirm the owner and beneficiaries on the issued policy. Kevin explains the free-look period stated in your policy, what to keep on file, and when to review the coverage again.
What you do
Sign the delivery forms and set up payment.
Step complete when
The policy is in force and you know when it should be reviewed.
Each life insurance product page shows these steps tailored to that product, including exactly what we need at step 1.
Questions people ask
Do I have to answer health questions on your website?+
No. The Life Planning Review asks about your goal and existing coverage only. Health details are discussed privately and handled through the carrier’s application.
Will I need a medical exam?+
It depends on your age, the amount and the product. Some applicants are approved from data and records alone; larger amounts and permanent policies more often include a paramedical exam.
How long does it take to get a life insurance policy?+
It varies by carrier and by what underwriting requires. No-exam approvals can be quick; cases that need doctors’ records or financial documentation take longer. Tell us about any deadline, such as a loan closing, at step 1.
What if the offer comes back different from what I applied for?+
At step 4 Kevin explains what changed and why, and you can accept, adjust the amount or pursue another carrier.
Can you work with my CPA or attorney?+
Yes. For business and estate cases we coordinate ownership and beneficiary questions with them during step 2.
