A bond is not insurance
A surety bond guarantees your obligation to someone else. Before a bond is issued, the owners usually sign an indemnity agreement promising to repay the surety if it ever pays a claim. We walk you through that agreement before you sign.
Questions people ask
What is a surety bond?+
A three-party guarantee: the surety guarantees to the obligee (an owner, town or court) that the principal (you) will meet an obligation, such as completing a contract or paying a judgment.
Is a surety bond the same as insurance?+
No. Insurance protects you. A bond protects the obligee, and if the surety pays a claim, you and the indemnitors must repay it under the indemnity agreement.
What do sureties look at?+
For contract bonds: credit, financial statements, working capital, work in progress and experience on similar jobs. For court bonds: financial strength and available collateral.
How fast can I get a bond?+
It depends on the bond and how complete your file is. Tell us your bid date, filing deadline or approval date at the start so the file is prioritized.
Can you bond me if I was declined?+
Often. Specialty sureties write bonds for weaker credit, thin financials or past claims, usually with conditions like collateral or funds control. Approval isn’t guaranteed.

Start a Bond RequestBond approval, amounts and terms are decided by the surety based on its underwriting. Approval is not guaranteed. A surety bond is not insurance for the principal: if the surety pays a claim, the principal and indemnitors must repay it.
